RWPS aids the mission of Ruah Woods to “restore the family and renew the culture” by providing high quality psychological services grounded in a Catholic vision of the human person. This vision sees the human person as created in the image of God, and thus possessing an inherent dignity. RWPS seeks to affirm this fundamental dignity of each and every human person and provide services that will encourage it to grow, including:
- Adult psychotherapy
- Child psychotherapy
- Marital therapy
- Family therapy
- Group therapy
- Psychological assessment
- Consultation with clergy, organizations, and schools
- Public speaking and outreach
- Presentations at professional conferences
- Written publications for a variety of audiences
- Teaching and training other psychological practitioners
Being created in God’s image also means that the human person is a fundamentally relational being. Each human person comes into existence by a gift from God, who is love, through the love of human parents. These relationships – to God and family – launch the person on a journey to discover the meaning of his existence and to fulfill it. As John Paul II taught us, it is through the sincere giving of oneself that men and women can truly find themselves and fulfill the meaning of their existence. Thus, RWPS sees the ability to give and receive mature, Christian love as central to psychological health. Of course, we need God’s grace to do this, but as Catholic tradition has always taught, grace builds on nature, and human nature is shaped by experience.
Our ability to give and receive love is shaped by our life experiences and our choices. This process begins from the earliest moments of our life. As Pope Benedict XVI has said, “the family is the privileged setting where every person learns to give and receive love.” At RWPS, we approach our work of restoring the family and renewing the culture from a relational perspective. By joining with those who are suffering and helping them to understand and overcome obstacles in giving and receiving mature love, RWPS will bring greater freedom, fulfillment, and joy to those whom we serve.
